Philippine Patriots used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Bangkok 86-58 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Philippine Patriots. Bangkok Cobras was better in third quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Bangkok Cobras to just 5 points in second quarter. Philippine Patriots forced 19 Bangkok Cobras turnovers. American center Nakiea Miller (204-79, college: Iona) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Anthony Johnson (197-79, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Philippine Patriots' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Gentry Lewis (206-81, college: Philander Smith) responded with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Filipino guard Marvin Cruz (173-84) scored 9 points and 6 assists. Philippine Patriots (1-0) keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Bangkok Cobras still closes the standings with one game lost. Philippine Patriots will face Petron Blaze (#6) in Manila in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Bangkok Cobras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bangkok Thailand Slammers.
