Important game to mention about took place in Waterloo, ON. Second ranked Golden Hawks (10-2) saved a 3-point victory at home edging leader Thunderwolves (10-2) 92-89 in the game for the first place. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Thunderwolves. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-18. But Thunderwolves won second period 24-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Golden Hawks brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Center Matthew Buckley (215) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and international forward Kale Harrison (196) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Golden Hawks' coach Peter Campbell allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Center Ryan Thomson (201-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Venzal Russel (188-87, college: Vermilion CC) scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Golden Hawks and five Thunderwolves players scored in double figures. Golden Hawks keep a position of league leader, which they share with Victoria and Lakehead. Golden Hawks will play against Gryphons (#6) in Guelph, ON in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Thunderwolves will have a break next round.
