Regular Season Round 17: Cape Breton - Memorial 88-84

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Capers (7-3) beat 8th ranked Sea Hawks (1-9) in Sydney, NS 88-84 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-10. But Sea Hawks won second period 29-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capers forced 22 Sea Hawks turnovers. Sea Hawks were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Al Alilovic (198) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Jimmy Dorsey (188) contributed with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Center Jason Shepherd (193-89) answered with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and center Mike Helsby (193) added 20 points in the effort for Sea Hawks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Capers. They maintain second place with 7-3 record having seven points less than leader Lakehead, which they share with UPEI. Sea Hawks lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
