Regular Season Round 12: Njardvik - Valur 98-76
Date: January 19, 2012
Rather expected game when bottom-ranked Valur (0-12) was crushed on the road by tenth ranked Njardvik (5-7) 98-76 on Thursday. The game without a history. Njardvik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 38. Njardvik forced 28 Valur turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Travis Holmes (193-86, college: VMI, agency: Strategic Sports) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and the other American import power forward Cameron Echols (203-81, college: Ball St.) who added 22 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Slovenian power forward Igor Tratnik (206-89) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and guard Ragnar Gylfason (183-85) scored 23 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Njardvik moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Fjolnir. Newly promoted Valur still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Njardvik will face Haukar (#11) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round. Valur will play at home against Stjarnan and hopes to get finally their first victory.
