Regular Season Round 32: Iowa E. - Tulsa 66ers 91-98

Date: January 21, 2012
Kevin Young gave his shiny white shoes a workout Friday. The Iowa Energy coach, decked out for the team’s annual “ ’70s Night,” was foot-stomping mad at his team for much of a 98-91 loss against the Tulsa 66ers in front of an announced crowd of 6,467 at Wells Fargo Arena. The Energy (15-6) were listless through three quarters, watching Tulsa dominate the glass while building a 20-point lead. The low point came when a missed shot by Tulsa caromed 19 feet from the basket and fell to the floor while no one from Iowa moved to gather it. A 66er happily picked it up while Young screamed at his players. “It’s frustrating to sit there as a coach and know that all it takes is a blockout here, a loose ball there and you’re probably not in a position where you’re down 20 and having to claw back in it,” Young said. The Energy mounted a fourth-quarter rally behind Andrew Drevo, who made four 3-pointers in the period and finished with a team-high 18 points. “In the first half, they weren’t falling,” he said. “I just tried to keep shooting, be confident in your shot and fortunately some of them fell in the second half. “We gave ourselves a chance, and that’s all you can ask.” Iowa cut the lead to 90-88, when fittingly Tulsa (11-12) scored on a putback, one of 22 offensive rebounds the 66ers chased down. That was as close as the Energy came. “Story of the night, bottom line,” Young said. “Anytime you give up 22 on the boards offensively, you’re probably not going to win the ball game.” *Courtesy of https://dmjuice.desmoinesregister.com
