Regular Season Round 32: Los Angeles D. - Bakersfield J. 107-110
Date: January 21, 2012
After leading at the half by 17 points (59-42), the Jam (12-10) had to hold on at the end, but they did just that, in a 110-107 victory over the D-Fenders (17-8) in El Segundo on Saturday night. The season series now stands at 3-2 in favor of Los Angeles, with another game between them scheduled for next Thursday evening in Bakersfield. Gerald Green, who scored 30 points the previous evening in Bakersfield (a D-Fenders 105-88 victory), had to come off the bench due to a stomach illness. With the Jam holding the 17 point advantage heading into the third quarter, he became the catalyst in the Los Angeles comeback attempt. During one stretch in the quarter, he reeled off 12 straight points, while finishing the period with 17, as the D-Fenders cut the lead to eight (88-80), and set the stage for a pressure-pack finish. In the fourth quarter and down by three, Green connected with a trey to tie the game at 106 with 40 seconds remaining. With just 11 ticks remaining, Jeremy Wise was fouled and made both free throws for a Jam 108-106 lead. Los Angeles was then able to whittle the lead down to one (108-107) with 8.1 seconds remaining, but the second of two free throws was missed by Elijah Millsap, and they were forced to foul Juan Pattillo with 5.7 left. Pattillo made both foul shots, and Green missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer. The D-Fenders came that close to tying it up after being down by as many as 19 points in the first half. The Jam was led by Osiris Eldridge, who scored 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Wise recorded 23 and dished out eight assists. Pattillo chipped in with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 boards. Adrian Thomas added 13 off the bench, and Solomon Alabi had 10. Mardy Collins led the D-Fenders with 26 points, and was followed by Green with 25, Millsap 20. Orien Greene 13, and Zach Andrews finished with 10 and a game-high 15 rebounds.
