Regular Season Round 24: Stelmet ZG - Energa Czarni 79-75

There was a minor upset when second-best Energa Czarni (15-7) lost to fifth ranked Zastal ZG (14-8) in Zielona Gora 75-79 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But Energa Czarni won third quarter 24-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Energa Czarni was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Ivorian-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 8 assists. The former international forward Piotr Stelmach (205-84, college: Mississippi St.) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American point guard Stanley Burrell (190-84) replied with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and American-Puerto Rican guard Darnell Hinson (186-80, college: Northeastern St.) added 21 points in the effort for Energa Czarni. Zastal ZG maintains fifth position with 14-8 record. Loser Energa Czarni dropped to the third place with seven games lost. Zastal ZG will face Polpharma (#11) in Starogard in the next round where they are favorite. Energa Czarni will play at home against the league's second-placed PGE Turow (#2) in Zgorzelec and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
