Regular Season Round 20: Clermont - Challans 73-77

Date: February 7, 2012
No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked Vendee Challans (11-9) defeated on the road 15th ranked Stade Clermont (6-14) 77-73 on Tuesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Stade Clermont won second period 15-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vendee Challans made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Stade Clermont outrebounded Vendee Challans 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Josh Almanson (205-82, college: Bowling Green) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and forward Fabien Herard (198-79) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) during the contest. American forward Jonathan McClark (200-77, college: Rider) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds and Bulgarian swingman Simeon Naydenov (201-81, college: Louisville, agency: Global Sports Plaza) scored 21 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vendee Challans moved-up to ninth place. Loser Stade Clermont keeps the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. Vendee Challans will meet at home league's leader Saint-Quentin in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Stade Clermont will play against Roche (#7) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the ProB just one year after relegation.
