Regular Season Round 19: Pogon Prudnik - GTK Gliwice 78-86

There was an upset when much higher ranked Pogon Prudnik (14-5) was defeated at home by eighth ranked GTK Gliwice (10-9) 86-78 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 31-25. But Pogon Prudnik won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when GTK Gliwice won last quarter 19-12. They shot 63.8 percent from the field and made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. GTK Gliwice forced 25 Pogon Prudnik turnovers. It was a great evening for power forward Lukasz Nawrot (200-83) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Tomasz Wrobel (180-85) helped adding 22 points and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). At the losing side swingman Maciej Lepczynski (193-82) responded with 31 points and forward Jaroslaw Pawlowski (194-80) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Five GTK Gliwice and four Pogon Prudnik players scored in double figures. GTK Gliwice have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with Alba Chorzow and AZS AGH Alstom. Pogon Prudnik at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. GTK Gliwice will face higher ranked WKK Obiekty (#5) in Wroclaw in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pogon Prudnik will play on the road against BM Wegiel Stal in Ostrow Wlkp. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
