BC Nokia (#3) forced the game against Tapiolan Honka (#2) into a double-overtime, but lost by seven points 80-87 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of BC Nokia. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 18-9. But BC Nokia won third quarter 14-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where BC Nokia used huge pressure winning it 20-17 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually double-overtime period 13-13. Tapiolan Honka forced 27 BC Nokia turnovers. BC Nokia was plagued by 36 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Tero Laitinen (201-87) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Brandon Thomas (192-85, college: Texas St.) chipped in 23 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Darren Townes (201-86, college: Hofstra) with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and American-British power forward Gerald January (201-88, college: Montevallo) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four BC Nokia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tapiolan Honka (14-4) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with FoKoPo. BC Nokia at the other side dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Tapiolan Honka will face league's leader Forssan Koripojat on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
