Regular Season Round 14: Olimpi - MIA Academy 82-79

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Superleague took place in Tbilisi. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked MIA (8-5) to second ranked Olimpi (10-2) 82-79 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of MIA. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 22-12 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. 30 personal fouls committed by MIA helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86, agency: Interperformances) who scored 35 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals. The former international forward Mikheil Berishvili (205-87) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four Olimpi players scored in double figures. American guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty, agency: Pro One Sports) produced 26 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and his fellow American import forward Tracy Smith (203, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) added 15 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. MIA's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Olimpi maintains second position with 10-2 record having just two points less than leader Armia. MIA at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Sokhumi. Olimpi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. MIA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Sokhumi.
