Regular Season Round 23: Jena - Braves 98-85

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Science City Jena (11-11) defeated at home 14th ranked Saar-Pfalz Braves (6-16) 98-85. It looked good early as Saar-Pfalz Braves took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Science City Jena had a 27-15 second period charge getting the lead and Saar-Pfalz Braves were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-98. Science City Jena made 25-of-31 charity shots (80.6 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American guard Kenny Barker (191-86, college: Alaska-Anch.) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 assists. Canadian guard Tyler Kepkay (183-87, college: Utah, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) helped adding 18 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. Science City Jena's coach Georg Eichler used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (200-88, college: McNeese St.) responded with 32 points and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and Nigerian guard Nick Okorie (185-88, college: Texas Tech) scored 18 points. Science City Jena moved-up to seventh place. Saar-Pfalz Braves at the other side keep the fourteenth position with 16 games lost. Science City Jena will play against ETB Wohnbau (#8) in Essen in the next round. Saar-Pfalz Braves will play on the road against Crailsheim Merlins (#3) and hope to get back on the winning track.
