The game in Athens supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Esperides (14-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Asteras (10-7). Esperides smashed Asteras 79-56 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Esperides. Asteras managed to win fourth quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Esperides outrebounded Asteras 45-33 including a 35-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Latoya Williams (193-87, college: Chipola JC) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Guard Roula Kalogirou (172-81) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Coach Giorgos Leivadis's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Nikitta Gartrell (175-88, college: N.Carolina St.) produced 13 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Shakara Jones (187-88, college: Missouri) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Esperides maintains second place with 14-3 record having just three points less than leader Athinaikos. Newly promoted Asteras keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with DAS Ano Liosa. Esperides will meet at home Panathinaikos (#4) in the next round. Asteras will play against DAS Ano Liosa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
