Second Stage Round 7: Zalgiris-Sabonio - LKKA-Atletas 80-78

A very close game took place in Kaunas between Zalgiris-Sabonio and LKKA-Atletas. Sixth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (21-15) got a very close home victory over 4th placed LKKA-Atletas (22-15). Zalgiris-Sabonio managed to escape with a 2-point win 80-78 on Friday evening. LKKA-Atletas cut a 17-point first quarter deficit to two at the end of the game. Zalgiris-Sabonio dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to LKKA-Atletas' 44. It was a great evening for swingman Tomas Dimsa (195-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Power forward Simonas Kymantas (204-93) helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Tomas Masiulis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side forward Vidmantas Sragauskis (200-86) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and center Tomas Urbonas (218-92) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris-Sabonio maintains sixth place in with 21-15 record. Loser LKKA-Atletas keeps the fourth position with 15 games lost. Zalgiris-Sabonio will meet at home league's leader Radviliskis in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. LKKA-Atletas will have a break next round.
