There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Blumenau (5-10) defeated at home 4th placed Sao Jose (8-6) 71-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 19-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Blumenau forced 24 Sao Jose turnovers. Strangely Sao Jose outrebounded Blumenau 41-22 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Angela Braghin (173-88) who led her team to a victory with 24 points. Cuban forward Yulianne Rodriguez (185-82) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Alessandra De Oliviera (201-73) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and Cristina Souza added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Sao Jose. Blumenau moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Maranhao. Sao Jose lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Blumenau will face higher ranked Santo Andre (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sao Jose will play against Basquete Clube in Aracatuba.
