Regular Season Round 15: TSU Tbilisi - Kutaisi 87-111
Date: February 25, 2012
The game in Tbilisi supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Kutaisi (10-4) played at the court of 7th ranked TSU (5-8). Kutaisi smashed TSU 111-87 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. TSU managed to win fourth quarter 31-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded TSU 56-43 including a 41-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kutaisi looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Azerbaijan forward Davit Barbakadze (203-82) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Richard Matiashvili (209-89) accounted for 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Five Kutaisi players scored in double figures. Forward Vasili Beruashvili (198-90) came up with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Soso Shermadini (208-85) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively for TSU in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kutaisi maintains third place with 10-4 record having just two points less than leader Armia. Loser TSU keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Kutaisi will meet at home league's second-placed Olimpi in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. TSU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Armia.
