Regular Season Round 8: Petron Blaze - KL Dragons 70-73

The biggest surprise of round 8 in ASEAN League was Malaysian guest KL Dragons' (#2) road victory over Filipino Petron Blaze (#3) 73-70 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Petron Blaze. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 20-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-70. KL Dragons dominated on the defensive end, holding Petron Blaze to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Tiras Wade (200-81, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) who scored 28 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee, agency: VVG Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Dalron Johnson (206-81, college: UNLV) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Douglas Thomas (206-83, college: Iowa) added 16 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. KL Dragons have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-2 record behind leader Philip.Patriots. Petron Blaze at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. KL Dragons are looking forward to face Satria Muda (#4) in Jakarta in the next round. Petron Blaze's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Philippine Patriots.
