Vietnamese Saigon Heat can celebrate finally their first win this season after seven consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Thailand Thailand Slammers (3-6) 60-55. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-9. But Thailand Slammers won second period 16-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saigon Heat forced 20 Thailand Slammers turnovers and had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American center Jonathan Jones (211-79, agency: TSS Management) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Nguyen Dung (188-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Saigon Heat players scored in double figures. American forward Chaz Twan Briggs (201-80, college: W.Virginia) replied with 13 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import center DeAndre Thomas (203-86, college: Robert Morris) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Thailand Slammers. Thailand Slammers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saigon Heat maintains eighth position with 1-7 record. It was Thailand Slammers' third loss in a row. They keep the seventh place with six games lost. Saigon Heat will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Thailand Slammers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bangkok Bangkok Cobras.
