Regular Season Round 52: Sioux Falls S. - Bakersfield J. 102-115

The Bakersfield Jam defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 115-102 Thursday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. Bakersfield erupted with a 70-point first half and coasted in the second half to their first victory after the All-Star break. Bakersfield (19-16) jumped out of the gates early, beginning the game on a 15-6 run. After a timeout, Sioux Falls (9-26) responded with a 12-6 run to trim the lead to 21-18. Bakersfield led after one quarter 30-27. In the second quarter, Bakersfield continued their hot shooting and outscored Sioux Falls 40-23 to take a 70-50 lead at halftime. Seventy points is the most Sioux Falls has given up in a half this season. Renaldo Major was a spark for Bakersfield scoring 9 of his 17 points in the second. In an attempt to climb back in the game, Sioux Falls was able to force 13 turnovers in the third quarter and outscore Bakersfield 30-19. Minnesota Timberwolves assignee Malcolm Lee along with Marqus Blakely fueled the charge, converting easy buckets in transition off steals. Trey Gilder converted a 3-point play at the end of the third to cut the deficit to 89-80 heading into the fourth. However, that was as close as Sioux Falls would get as Bakersfield went on a 10-1 run to begin the fourth quarter and get their sixth win in eight games. Derrick Byars had a big game for Bakersfield with 26 points and a season-high 17 rebounds to also go along with four assists. Juan Pattillo came off bench to contribute 23 points and seven rebounds. Blakely had a big game with 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a season-high seven steals. Gilder posted his third double-double in four contests with team highs in points (25) and rebounds (11). Sioux Falls visits Erie Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT.
