Second Stage Round 9: Gargzdai - Perlas-MRU 84-81

There was a minor upset when 13th ranked Perlas-MRU (18-21) was edged on the road by fifteenth ranked Gargzdai-Bremena (12-27) 84-81 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Perlas-MRU won fourth quarter 29-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Swingman Tadas Mazelis (194-92) stepped up and scored 26 points and 4 assists for the winners and forward Laurynas Lucinskas (201-93) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Antanas Udras (203-92) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and power forward Mantas Virbalas (203-88) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four Perlas-MRU players scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU's coach Mindaugas Sakalauskas let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Gargzdai-Bremena maintains fifteenth place in with 12-27 record. Loser Perlas-MRU keeps the thirteenth position with 21 games lost. Gargzdai-Bremena will face higher ranked Statyba (#8) in Vilnius in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
