Regular Season Round 65: LA Lakers - Sacramento K. 115-107

Date: March 2, 2012
On Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers play a much-anticipated game against the Miami Heat and public enemy No. 1 Dwyane Wade. Wade gave the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant a mild concussion, broken nose and sore neck in Sunday’s All-Star Game. He’s the reason Bryant is wearing a protective mask. But before the Lakers could take aim at the Heat, they had to take care of the lowly Sacramento Kings, a task that proved harder than it looked. The Kings pushed the Lakers Friday before succumbing, 115-107, at Staples Center. “It was an interesting game,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said. “I’m going to take the win.” The Lakers were facing the worst shooting team in the league and one that had won just four road games. The Kings should have folded against the Lakers defense, which ranks third in the league in field-goal percentage. Instead, the Lakers took their time finding their offensive balance and get their defense in gear. They limited the Kings to just 16 third-quarter points on their way to what appeared to be a comfortable 92-74 lead. The Kings didn’t show any signs of fatigue, though, in their second game of a back-to-back and took one more run at the Lakers in the fourth quarter. Trailing 94-74, they outscored the Lakers bench players, 21-6, including an 11-0 run that was capped by a Jimmer Fredette 3-pointer to pull to 100-95. “Part of me thought we relaxed a little bit (in the fourth),” Brown said. “We had put the reserves in, and for some reason, they couldn’t get it going. You know how this league is, when one team makes a few in a row, they start to feel it.” Bryant again didn’t seem to have any trouble playing with the mask and scored a game-high 38 points with eight rebounds. Andrew Bynum added 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Pau Gasol had 15 points and seven rebounds. Metta World Peace (15 points) and Matt Barnes (10 points) also scored in double figures. *Courtesy of https://news.bostonherald.com
