Regular Season Round 21: Panathinaikos - PAOK 85-65
Date: March 3, 2012
Very predictable result in Athens where second ranked Panathinaikos (17-2) smashed 7th ranked PAOK (8-12) 85-65. It looked good early as PAOK took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panathinaikos had a 22-14 second period charge getting the lead and PAOK was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-85. Panathinaikos forced 22 PAOK turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by PAOK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for international power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83) who led his team to a victory with 18 points. Australian center Aleks Maric (211-84, college: Nebraska) contributed with 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Dimos Dikoudis (206-77) answered with 19 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Nikos Pappas (194-90, agency: FCM) added 18 points in the effort for PAOK. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Panathinaikos. Defending champion maintains second place with 17-2 record having just three points less than leader Olympiakos. PAOK at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Marousi (#13) on the road which should be another easy win for them. PAOK will play against Kolossos (#3) in Rodou.
