ASEAN League top team - Filipino Philippine Patriots (9-2) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat fifth ranked Indonesian Satria Muda (5-7) in Jakarta 72-68. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Satria Muda won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Philippine Patriots won last quarter 23-20. They made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman Anthony Johnson (197-79, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) notched 24 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and center Nakiea Miller (204-79, college: Iona) supported him with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Philippine Patriots' coach used entire bench in such tough game. Even a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds by power forward Steve Thomas (204-81, college: Middle Tenn.St.) did not help to save the game for Satria Muda. Forward Jonathan Smith (206-82, college: Bowie St.) added 22 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Philippine Patriots maintains first position with 9-2 record. Satria Muda lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Philippine Patriots will meet bottom-ranked Saigon Heat (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Satria Muda will play against Thailand Slammers in Bangkok and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
