Regular Season Round 6: Guayama - Arecibo 64-86

An interesting game was played in Guayama where Capitanes (#6) crushed host Brujos (#6) with 22-point difference 86-64 on Monday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Capitanes. Brujos managed to win fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 26. They outrebounded Brujos 48-32 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Larry Ayuso (190-77, college: USC, agency: Global Sports Plaza) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Panamanian-Spanish power forward Ruben Garces (206-73, college: Providence) chipped in 7 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) with 11 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 8 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion (3-3) moved-up to fifth place. Loser Brujos dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Capitanes will meet at home higher ranked Quebradillas (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brujos will play against Atleticos (#6) in San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
