There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Matera (14-16) won against at home 5th ranked Fabriano (8-22) 78-61 on Thursday. The game without a history. Matera led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Fabriano to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Fabriano 40-26 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for the former international swingman Andrea Pilotti (196-80, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 21 points. Naturalized Argentinian guard Sebastian Vico (190-86, agency: Players Group) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Matera players scored in double figures. Forward Giorgio Sgobba (202-92) answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds and forward Giulio Castelletta (206-92) added 14 points in the effort for Fabriano. Matera have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Perugia. Fabriano lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth position with 22 games lost. Matera will face Comsum.it SI (#6) in Siena in the next round. Fabriano will play on the road against the league's second-placed Torino.
