Regular Season Round 13: Petron Blaze - Saigon H. 63-66

The most exciting game of round 13 in the ASEAN League took place in Manila. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of much higher ranked Filipino Petron Blaze (10-4) to eighth ranked Vietnamese Saigon Heat (4-9) 66-63 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Petron Blaze. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-63. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jahmar Thorpe (198-84, college: Houston) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import center Jonathan Jones (211-79, agency: TSS Management) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Leo Avenido (186-78) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Dalron Johnson (206-81, college: UNLV) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Petron Blaze. Petron Blaze's coach Ato Agustin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saigon Heat maintains eighth place with 4-9 record. Petron Blaze at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Saigon Heat are looking forward to face higher ranked Bangkok Cobras (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Petron Blaze will play against Satria Muda in Jakarta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
