ASEAN League top team - Filipino Philippine Patriots (12-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Thailand Thailand Slammers (5-10) in Manila 89-68. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 57-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Philippine Patriots made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Thailand Slammers turnovers. Philippine Patriots looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was swingman Anthony Johnson (197-79, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) who scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Center Nakiea Miller (204-79, college: Iona) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Calvin Williams (206-87, college: SE Missouri St.) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points, 20 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks and center Christopher Garnett (211-80, college: Indiana SE) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Philippine Patriots have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-2 record. Loser Thailand Slammers keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Philippine Patriots will meet at home Bangkok Cobras (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Thailand Slammers will play against Saigon Heat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
