Regular Season Round 73: Ft.Wayne MA - Santa Cruz W. 101-104
Date: April 6, 2012
The Dakota Wizards used a late fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 104-101 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Mad Ants started the game shooting 80% from the three point line in the first period to give them the 29-21 lead. The Wizards cooled the Mad Ants off a bit in the second but still trailed by 6 points going into the locker rooms at the half. The Wizards came out quickly in the second half and took an early third quarter lead by scoring the first 7 point of the period. The Mad Ants continued to play catch-up throughout the rest of the period and trailed 74-77 going into the final period. The fourth quarter was where things got fun for the fans in Fort Wayne. The lead went back and forth at the beginning of the fourth period before the Mad Ants took an 8 point lead with one minute left in the game. The Wizards stormed back however behind clutch threes by Stefhon Hannah and Leo Lyons that made it a 98-97 Mad Ants lead with 43.7 seconds to play in the game. Vernon Macklin pushed the lead back to three with a monster dunk off a nice feed from Cameron Jones, but the Wizards came right back and put the game away with a short jump hook by Marcus Dove and a clutch steal and lay in by Edwin Ubiles. The Mad Ants had one more shot to win the game, but a driving lay in by Ron Howard was blocked by Dove, and Maurice Baker hit two free throws to ice the game. Marcus Dove led all scorers with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Edwin Ubiles added 15 points, and Leo Lyons contributed 12 points off the bench. Detroit Piston assignee, Vernon Macklin led the way for the Mad Ants with another monster game of 25 points and 13 rebounds. Cameron Jones continued his strong play by adding 17 points off the bench, and Charles Garcia finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Ants and Wizards will tip it off against tomorrow night in Fort Wayne as the Mad Ants wrap up their 2011-2012 season. *Courtesy of www.wane.com
