Date: April 6, 2012
The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Iowa Energy 120-97 Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. Both teams got off to slow starts to begin the game, combining for 13 turnovers in the first quarter. It took Sioux Falls (15-34) nearly three minutes to get their first points of the game when Dominique Coleman knocked in a jumper from the wing to tie the game at two. Trailing Iowa 15-14, Sioux Falls finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 25-15 lead after one. Sioux Falls continued to ride that momentum, turning the 11-0 run into a 24-4 run and took their largest lead yet (38-19) less than four minutes into the second quarter. In an attempt to get back in the game, Iowa (25-24) went on a 9-2 spurt to trim the lead to 11 (51-40) with less than two minutes left in the half. Sioux Falls stabilized the momentum and led 59-45 at the half. Curtis Withers had 13 of his 26 points in the second quarter. Marqus Blakely began the second half with a driving dunk courtesy of Coleman's pass to him in transition and Sioux Falls continued to put the pressure on Iowa. Sioux Falls built their lead to as many as 28 in the third quarter thanks to six turnovers by Iowa that led to easy buckets in transition. After three quarters Sioux Falls was in complete control leading 95-69. Sioux Falls coasted to victory in the fourth quarter, never allowing Iowa to make any type of run. In spite of the loss, Iowa clinched a playoff berth due to Texas' loss to Los Angeles tonight.
