Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Frayles de Guasave (7-11) was defeated at home by first ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (14-4) 93-83 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Ostioneros de Guaymas. Frayles de Guasave was better in third quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 41-30 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ostioneros de Guaymas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Haakim Johnson (201-87, college: Pikeville) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) with 28 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Ostioneros de Guaymas and five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record, which they share with Hermosillo. Frayles de Guasave at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas will face Mineros de Cananea (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Frayles de Guasave will play against Pioneros Los Mochis.
