Second Stage Round 9: PBG Basket - LKS Lodz 88-94

There was a small surprise in Poznan where eighth ranked LKS Sphinx (7-30) defeated 6th ranked PBG Basket (11-26) 94-88 on Wednesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-16. But PBG Basket won third quarter 29-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. LKS Sphinx made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for LKS Sphinx especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. PBG Basket was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Michal Michalak (194-93) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Jakub Dluski (200-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five LKS Sphinx players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Serbian guard Djordje Micic (195-83) who recorded 33 points (!!!) and forward Mateusz Bartosz (203-87) added 6 points and 13 rebounds respectively. PBG Basket's coach Milija Bogicevic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted LKS Sphinx maintains eighth place in Group B with 7-30 record. Loser PBG Basket dropped to the seventh position with 26 games lost. LKS Sphinx will face league's leader Slask Wroclaw at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
