Regular Season Round 32: Clavijo - Melilla 80-76

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked CB Clavijo (17-15) defeated 7th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (18-14) in Logrono 80-76 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-14. But Melilla Baloncesto won second period 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by guard Alberto Ruiz de Galarreta (198-83) who scored that evening 22 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Mathew Witt (183-84, college: E.Kentucky) supported him with 14 points. Even 24 points and 7 rebounds by power forward Hector Manzano (207-80) did not help to save the game for Melilla Baloncesto. Guard Jose Salvador Arco (194-85) added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CB Clavijo moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Breogan. Loser Melilla Baloncesto keeps the seventh position with 14 games lost. CB Clavijo will meet Girona FC (#12) on the road in the next round. Melilla Baloncesto will play against Lleida Basquet (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
