Regular Season Round 110: Charlotte B. - N.Orleans H. 67-75

Date: April 16, 2012
Forward Carl Landry hit two free throws with 24 seconds left for a six-point lead, securing the New Orleans Hornets’ 75-67 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena. Gerald Henderson had 27 points for the Bobcats. The loss was the Bobcats’ 17th straight, breaking a team record set earlier this season. At 7-53, the Bobcats would finish with the worst winning percentage in NBA history if they lose their remaining six games. The third quarter was remarkable for its lack of scoring. The teams combined for 20 points as the Bobcats and Hornets entered the fourth quarter tied at 47-47. The two teams shot a combined 6 of 40 in the third. The 20 combined points were the fewest in one quarter in the NBA since 2004. That put them on a pace where it was conceivable to break the record for fewest combined points in NBA history (119). New Orleans made up a five-point deficit in the quarter’s last three minutes. The Bobcats led 39-35 at halftime, after assembling an 18-4 run in the first half’s last five minutes. New Orleans had built a 29-21 lead on the jump-shooting of Marco Belinelli, but the Bobcats came back with a 7-0 run completed on Kemba Walker’s running 6-foot jump shot. Rookie Walker was a late addition to the starters after D.J. Augustin was scratched with ongoing tendinitis in his right knee. Augustin shot 2 of 12 in his previous two games and coach Paul Silas said pre-game he felt Augustin’s knee was affecting his play again. Augustin has been taking off practices to rest the injury. Injuries heavily struck both teams. The Hornets sat shooting guard Eric Gordon and center Chris Kaman. In all, nine players were ruled out between the two teams. Earlier in the day the Bobcats ruled out shooting guard Reggie Williams, who suffered a concussion Sunday, when he was elbowed in the mouth during the loss to the Boston Celtics [team stats]. The first-half shooting reflected two teams headed for the draft lottery, not the playoffs. The Hornets shot 38 percent from the field and the Bobcats shot 37 percent. Starting guards Henderson (12 points) and Walker (10) kept together Charlotte’s offense. The Bobcats continued their run late in the second quarter with a baseline drive by Tyrus Thomas and Walker’s buzzer-beating jump shot to retain the lead. The Bobcats continue their homestand Wednesday against the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls. *Courtesy of https://news.bostonherald.com
