Quarter-Finals Round 3: Austin T. - Erie Bay H. 99-85
Date: April 16, 2012
Austin's inside presence and superior depth, featuring the added surprise appearance by guard Justin Dentmon, proved to be the difference on Monday as the Toros defeated Erie 99-85 at Cedar Park Center to capture the deciding game of the two teams' NBA Development League's opening-round series. The Toros advance to play Canton, who beat Springfield in a series-deciding game on Monday, in a best-of-three-game series beginning either Wednesday or Thursday in Canton. The first two games of the between Austin and Erie featured big early leads by the home team, but the rubber game of the series came down to execution in the fourth quarter — and that's when Dentmon began to shine. Dentmon, who was the Toros' offensive leader before a series of 10-day NBA contracts with San Antonio and Toronto (where he played Sunday and scored 10 points and had four assists against Atlanta), left Canada Monday morning after not being picked up for the rest of the NBA season by the Raptors. He flew all day and, after his delayed flight didn't land at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport until 7:18 p.m., hopped in a car and made it to Cedar Park by midway through the second quarter. Dentmon entered the game with 6:53 to play in the third quarter and instantly energized the Toros' attack, eventually scoring 12 points on 5 for 6 shooting (including 2-of-3 on 3-pointers) and dished out three assists in just 16 minutes of play. The Toros were led by forward Julian Wright's 25 points and 14 rebounds and 23 points and a game-high 16 boards from center Eric Dawson. Flip Murray hit for 13 points and former Texas Longhorn guard Cory Joseph scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Courtesy of www.statesman.com
