Azovmash rallied past Hoverla in the series opener. The game was mostly controlled by Azovmash. Hoverla managed to win third quarter 30-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. Azovmash looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Hoverla helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman Matt Walsh (197-82, college: Florida) fired 21 points and 7 assists for the winners. The former international guard Artur Drozdov (199-80) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. American point guard Marcus Walker (186-86, college: Colorado St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) produced 24 points and the other American import swingman Kevin Tiggs (196-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hoverla's coach Evgeni Murzin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
