Regular Season Round 23: Guayama - Bayamon 70-79
Date: April 21, 2012
There was no surprise in Guayama where 7th ranked Brujos (7-17) were defeated by third ranked Vaqueros (14-10) 79-70 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Brujos won fourth quarter 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vaqueros made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Michael Sweetney (203-82, college: Georgetown) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Christian Dalmau (194-77, college: Daytona Beach CC, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Josh Powell (206-83, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Brujos' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Vaqueros moved-up to second place, which they share with Quebradillas. Brujos at the other side keep the seventh position with 17 games lost. Vaqueros will face bottom-ranked Caciques (#8) in Humacao in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Brujos will play at home against Mets in Guaynabo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
