Sixth-ranked Mets (11-13) made lots of trouble for first ranked Indios (18-6) in Guaynabo on Saturday. The visitors from Mayaguez managed to secure only five-point victory 92-87. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 16-9 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-8. Indios looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Mets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Johwen Villegas (193-85, college: FIU) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Derrick Caracter (206-88, college: UTEP) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Indios and five Mets players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Indios maintains first place with 18-6 record. Mets lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 13 games lost. Indios will face Capitanes (#4) in Arecibo in the next round. Mets will play at home against the league's second-placed Quebradillas.
