Hapoel Tel-Aiv celebrated the opening win in the series versus Ironi Nes-Ziona. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Ironi Nes-Ziona was better in second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Tel-Aviv dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ironi Nes-Ziona's 34 and made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. American Curtis Kelly (205-88, college: Kansas St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and point guard Bar Timor (191-92) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's coach Erez Edelshtein allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American swingman Bilal Benn (196-86, college: Niagara) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Gabe Blair (203-87, college: Wichita St.) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds.
