Malaysian KL Dragons (10-9) survived in overtime against Filipino Philippine Patriots (14-5) by four points 97-93 on Sunday night. The game took place in Manila. But the guests from Kuala Lumpur were better at the end. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Philippine Patriots won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Philippine Patriots used huge pressure winning it 23-17 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-14. They outrebounded Philippine Patriots 47-36 including 16 on the offensive glass. KL Dragons looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee, agency: VVG Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Tiras Wade (200-81, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. American swingman Anthony Johnson (197-79, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and guard Al Vergara (173-79) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Philippine Patriots players scored in double figures. Philippine Patriots' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. KL Dragons have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Satria Muda. Philippine Patriots at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. KL Dragons will face bottom-ranked Thailand Slammers (#8) in Bangkok in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Philippine Patriots will play at home against Singapore Slingers (#5).
