1/8 Finals Round 2: Indiana P. - Orlando M. 93-78
Date: April 30, 2012
Although this wasnt an elimination game, by all accounts the Pacers were playing for their playoff lives against the Orlando Magic. Losing one game at home is critical enough but dropping both would put them in a desperate situation. The Pacers came out the gate playing like their lives depended on it too. But, just like in game one, the Magic wouldnt stop fighting. In the end, the strength and depth of the Indiana Pacers finally dominated and created separation like many thought they would from the beginning. The Pacers took control in the third quarter and pushed ahead to victory, 93-78. David West, Danny Granger and George Hill led the team with 18 points apiece as they dominated from the paint and worked their way out. The Pacers clicked offensively all game but the defense and rebounding wasnt always solid which allowed Orlando to hang around for a while. In the first quarter the Pacers jumped out to an 11 point lead on the strength of hot shooting and tight defense. The Magic also missed a number of jump shots and layups early on. They settled down finished the quarter only down three at, 24-21. In the second quarter Orlando pulled ahead and they seemed to have more energy and determination to steal both road games before returning home. The Pacers came out of halftime looking to change that and take momentum back. In the third quarter Orlando was outplayed, outmuscled and out hustled as they outscored the Magic, 30-13. The crowd grew louder and the team more confident with every basket scored and defensive stop at the other end. After the game the Magic knew that was when they lost the game. 'In the third quarter, they just kicked our butts,' said Glen Davis. 'They got every loose ball.' In the fourth, Orlando could never get enough defensive stops to make Indiana feel threatened. The Pacers continued to hustle and pile onto the lead with some breakaway baskets by Darren Collison and Paul George. Now the series shifts to Orlando tied at 1-1. Even with the tough loss, Orlando returns home feeling good because they were able to steal the home court advantage. 'We tried to get two, got one,' said Davis. 'We're still in a good position. We just need to make sure that we play with a lot of energy and not let up.'
