Scafati snatched a narrow road win over Pistoia in the semifinal series opener. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 26-12 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Givova Scafati outrebounded Tuscany Pistoia 48-22 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Tuscany Pistoia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward James Thomas (203-80, college: Texas) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 24 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international swingman Andrea Ghiacci (200-81) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Givova Scafati players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Dwight Hardy (188-87, college: St.John's) responded with 33 points (!!!) and the other American import forward Bobby Jones (201-84, college: Washington) scored 15 points.
