Virgin Islands celebrated the first win at the U18 Fiba Americas in Brazil. They held off Mexico to finish at 1-2 record in Group A. Khalid Hart knocked down 30 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to pace the winners. Mexico ensured a confident start. They surged ahead for a 23:15 lead at the first break. Virgin Islands cut the deficit in the second quarter. They narrowed the deficit to 7 points at the interval 46:39. Mexico boosted the margin again in the third term. They arrived at the final break up by 9 points 64:55. However Virgin Islands turned things around in the final quarter. They poured in 26 points and snatched a tough win at the end. Alex Brazil accounted for 17 points and 16 rebounds for Virgin Islands. Angel Rivera-Cuencas added 14 points in the win. Jose Estrada answered with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Mexico. Jose Luis Aguilera had 14 points in the loss.
