Dominican Republic open the campaign with the win over Mexico. Dominican Republic celebrated a 85:67 victory in Day 2, while Mexico fell at 1-1. There was little to separate the teams during the initial exchanges. Mexico however started better and took 23:16 after the opening period. Dominican Republic meanwhile replied with 26-17 in the second frame and took 42:40 at the halftime. Later on they dominated the game in the court. For every bit as tired, lethargic and lacklustre Mexico looked, Dominican Republic were quite brilliant and it was their defence as well as offence which stood out. Dominican Republic won the third period 21-14 and added 22-13 in the last quarter. Horford Alfred stepped up with 24 points for the winners, while Martinez Yack collected 18 points and 13 rebounds. Baez Eulis had 16 points and 10 boards and Coronado Juan had 12. Mariscal Victor posted 17 points in defeat and Stoll Paul added 13.
