Paraguay finished in the fifth place at the South American Championship. They held off Chile to end the tournament campaign on a high note. Paraguay will now have a chance to advance to the 2013 Fiba Americas Championship. They need any American team to win Olympic Games to be granted the qualification ticket. Chile got to the better start. They grabbed a 21:18 lead after ten minutes. Paraguay still trailed after the second quarter. Moreover Chile managed to take a 5-point lead at the interval 44:40. The teams traded baskets throughout intense third quarter. Chile entered the final frame up by four points 67:63. But Paraguay went on a scoring spree in the fourth stanza. They unloaded 30 points and snatched a difficult win at the end. Guillermo Araujo provided 22 points and 9 rebounds for Paraguay. Daniel Perez added 19 points in the victory. Evandro Arteaga answered with 27 points for Chile. Gerardo Isla connected for 23 points in the loss.
