Argentina earned the opening win at the Olympic Games basketball tournament. Luis Scola scored 32 points to lead the Latin American team past Lithuania. Argentina confidently started the game. Three-pointers from Emanuel Ginobili and Prigioni set the tone. Lithuania soon got things going as well. The teams eagerly exchange baskets throughout intense first quarter. Argentina eked out a 24:23 lead at the first break. The Latin American side increased the tempo in the second quarter. A barrage of three-pointers from Carlos Delfino helped Argentina accumulate a 51:39 halftime advantage. Argentina stayed on fire from behind the arc in the third quarter. Luis Scola executed well inside the paint helping Argentina take a 17-point lead at the final intermission. Lithuania stood no chance in the final quarter as Argentina stayed calm and determined in the final period. Emanuel Ginobili posted 21 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, while Carlos Delfino added 20 points for the winners. Linas Kleiza answered with 20 points and 7 boards for Lithuania. Paulius Jankunas had 14 points in defeat.
