Russia storm to victory in opener of the Olympics 2012. The team overcame the host of the campaign 95:75 in London. Russia opened the game with 24-19 and erupted with 25-15 in the second frame. Great Britain seemed to play better in the third period and reduced the gap to 13 points with 10 minutes to go. Russia however did not allow the opponents to come closer and dominated the end of the game. Kirilenko nailed a three-pointer for 81:62, while Timofey Mozgov brought 83:64 on the board. Antonov poured in two for 87:66 and Kaun scored for 89:70. Sergey Monya increased the lead to 22 points and Freeland reduced to 92:72. Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu cut it to 92:75, while Khvostov closed the game at 95:75. Andrei Kirilenko exploded with 35 points for the winners and Shved collected 16 points and 13 assists. Vitaliy Fridzon poured in 14, while Timofey Mozgov added 9. Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu combined for 48 points in the losing effort and Joel Freeland added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
