Spain clinched the second straight win at the 2012 Olympic Games. They fired past Australia to improve at 2-0 record in Group B. Australia fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Pau Gasol scored 20 points to lead the charge. Australia opened the game with an aggressive defence. They capitalized taking an early lead. The Boomers posted a 19:14 advantage after ten minutes. However Spain used a 9:0 run midway through the second term to pull in front 26:21. Spain capped the first half leading by five points 37:32. Spain tipped off the second half with 10:0 run to clear off. They unloaded 26 points in the third term to ensure a 21-point lead before the final quarter. Australia tried to stay in the game till the final buzzer. They narrowed the deficit at 10-point mark before losing at the end. Rudy Fernandez scored 17 points, while Marc Gasol provided 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Joe Ingles and Brad Newley answered with 12 points each for the Boomers. Patrick Mills had 11 points in the loss.
