Preliminary Round Day 3: BRAZIL - RUSSIA 74-75

Russia earned the third straight win at the Olympic Games basketball tournament. They snatched a thrilling victory over Brazil. Vitaliy Fridzon drained a late three-pointer to propel Russia to the win. Brazil fell at 2-1 record in Group B after the loss. Brazil ensured a confident start to the game. The Latin American team gained a 20:15 lead at the first intermission. However Andrei Kirilenko knocked donw 15 points in the second quarter to put Russian in front 40:32 at halftime. Timofey Mozgov gave Russia a double-digit lead at the start of the third quarter. They kept Brazil at distance posting a 59:53 lead at the final intermission. But the Latin American team denied the deficit in the fourth stanza. Nene Hilario tipped off a 6:0 run that tied things up at 63. Soon Larry Taylor and Leandrinho Barbosa gave Brazil a 72:67 lead. But Alexey Shved knocked down five points in a row to narrow the deficit. Marcelinho Huertas made it 74:72 for Brazil however Vitaly Vitaliy Fridzon dropped a killer bomb and sealed the victory for David Blatt's team. Andrei Kirilenko accounted for 19 points, while Timofey Mozgov added 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Leandrinho Barbosa answered with 16 points for Brazil. Larry Taylor netted 12 points in the loss.
