USA claimed the fifth straight win at the Olympic basketball tournament. They knocked down Argentina to win preliminary Group A. Kevin Durant poured in 28 points to pace the winners. USA will now take on Australia, while Argentina will play versus Brazil in the quarterfinals. USA jumped to an early 14:8 lead but Argentina quickly erased the deficit. The teams went neck and neck throughout the opening quarter. Kevin Durant capped the period with a three-pointer to give USA a 34:32 lead. Argentina and USA exchanged baskets throughout the third quarter. LeBron James made it 60:57 at the interval. But the third term belonged to the North American team. LeBron James triggered an 11:2 run that gave USA a 9-point lead. Soon USA organined a 12:3 rally to boost the gap at 16-point mark. USA exploded with 42 points in the period to take a 102:78 lead. They never looked back afterwards and marched to the victory at the end. LeBron James accounted for 18 points, while Chris Paul delivered 17 points and 7 assists in the victory. Emanuel Ginobili responded with 16 points, 6 assists and 5 boards for Argentina. Carlos Delfino netted 13 points in the loss.
