Mills fires a buzzer beater to lift Australia over Russia in the start of the last day in Preliminary Round. He brought his team a thrilling 82:80 win to finish with 3-2 record. Russia meanwhile finished with 4-1 record on top. Russia proved it one more time to be the best team to be watched. The European team battles until the last seconds and usually grabs the victory at the end of the game. Australia won the first period 29-20, but Russia reduced to 46:45 at the halftime. Again Australia needed 23-19 in the third period for 5-point advantage after three quarters. Mozgov opened the last stanza for 69:66 but Russia tied the game only at the end. Andersen made it 77:70, while Kaun and Ponkrashov reduced to 4 points with 3 minutes to go. Andersen made another dunk for 79:73 and then Kirilenko made two free throws for 79:75. The latter later made a jump shot and added another free throw for 79:78. Fridzon later gave European team 80:79 advantage, but the victory ran out from Russia. Australia needed 4 seconds to find Mills that fired a three-pointer with the buzzer. Ingles top-scored for the winners with 20 points, while Baynes and Mills added 13 each. DELLAVEDOVA followed them with 10 points in a win. Kaun ended up with 18 points in the losing effort and Shved as well as Kirilenko had 13 each. Mozgov poured in 10 points in a loss.
